Long, short, huge, tiny, naked, coated, coarse, slender (gracile), well the list can be made almost neverending. One thing they all have in common though, they are dogs and from a historical perspective they are descendants from the wolf.
A fascinating thought and maybe also something to think about.

When talking about breedhistory it's a whole lot shorter perspective. Breeds that says they have a very long history, when it all comes in perspective, are only talking about a few hundreds of years.Other breeds being much younger and many families of breeds share the same ancestors not far back in time. The fact that new breeds developes is natural and often due to geografical selection.

Tsvetnaya bolonka originates most certainly from the bichon family, but has developed in a country where the possibility of breeding "luxury dogs" and also the access to breedingstock has been much different from the western world.

The world growing, an increased globalisation, borders opening brings - of course - more oportunities to exchange everything, even dogs! To preserve and develope a certain breed it is most important to know as much as possible of its history, preferable also about the other breeds in the same family, that is why we publish these two articles written by two Russian experts and also photos of Russian dogs from the early 50's and forward.

Our greatest gratitude to Vitaliy Kudryavtsev for sharing and letting
